Mangaluru, Dec 05, 2015: Just like the floods that ravaged Chennai is a  man-made disaster,  even Karnataka may witness a similar calamity if the government  decided to go ahead with the Yettinahole project which is marred by controversies,  warned senior Congress leader  B Janardhana Poojary.

Addressing press persons at the District Congress Office on December 5, Saturday, he said  the recent  all party meeting convened by the Chief Minister and the statement issued by him after the meeting has revealed that the government was determined to  implement the project despite   opposition to the same. Even BJP leader K S Eshwarappa is backing the project, Poojary said while expressing his displeasure to the same and added that the leaders have still failed to learn a lesson from the Chennai disaster.

Referring to the Tamil Nadu Government  decision to reject donations from other states including Karnataka,  Poojary questioned why in that case the Tamil Nadu government accepted the Rs 1,060 crore package announced by the Centre, the amount being the tax payer’s money itself. At the same time, Poojary was highly critical of  Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for announcing just Rs 5 crore relief to Tamil Nadu while he could have announced at least Rs 25 crores.

On the recent Padayatra taken out by MP Nalin Kumar Kateel against the Yettinahole Project, Poojary said Nalin  should also file an affidaviit with the NationaL Green Tribunal in his capacity as MP.

Lashing out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his frequent foreign tours,  Poojary  said even the PMO was not entertaining RTI applications seeking to know the expenses towards these foreign tours. The PM has done nothing but embarrassed   us by raising funds for his shows on foreign soil, Poojary said and added  he was ready to face a defamation case if any of the statement made by him was false.
