He was responding to a  query from a member of the general public during a phone-in programme  at the City Police Commissioner’s office on June 7, Friday.

The chaotic situation prevailing  at the market road due to street vendors was highlighted by one of the callers who drew the attention of the authorities towards the parking problem in the area as well as the problems  faced by pedestrians.

Responding to this, DCP Lakshmi Ganesh said evicting street vendors is the responsibility of the City Corporation and that the police can only provide protection  during such drives. He said the matter would be brought to the notice of the MCC.

DCP Hanumantharaya said street vendors too have a right to do business, but they need to be provided alternate arrangements. Still if vehicular movement is affected, then action would be taken against those responsible, he added.

As usual there was also a complaint that conductors were not issuing tickets in private buses. Some callers even complained of stray dog menace.
