Chain snatching cases on the rise in Mangalore city

Mangaluru, 22 April 2015: The incidents of Gold chains including mangalasutra snatching has been rising in the city for the last several days and two cases of chain snatching reported on Wednesday 22 April 2015.

Two women had lost their valuable gold chains in two separate incidents reported from Karangalapady and Naguri on Wednesday.

 

On Wednesday 2.30 pm, One Laxmi returning to home after alighting from a city bus in the Naguri bus stop and walking towards Kankanady Railway station road two bike raiders snatched two gold chains worth Rs.77, 000. The snatchers asked the lady in Tulu that Muthappa Poojarina ellu Olu (where is Muthappa Poojary’s home) and then suddenly snatched the chains and fled away.

In the last week alone six cases of chain snatching booked in the various stations in the city and on April 14, three persons snatched gold chains worth Rs. 4.8 lakh in the heart of the city near Mukhyaprana Temple road.

Two motorcycle-borne persons allegedly stole the gold chain of a 35-year-old woman from Balpugudde near Kavoor when she was walking towards her house on 4 April 2015 Saturday night.

According to the Kavoor police, Sarojini finished her work at her office near Lady Hill Junction and boarded a bus to her house. She got down near Mahalingeshwara Temple bus stop and started walking towards her house. A motorcyclist stopped his vehicle and asked her the way to Yeyyadi. As she was showing the way, the motorcyclist started to move and the person riding pillion allegedly snatched her gold chain. Sarojini raised the alarm but the duo fled from the spot. The gold chain was worth Rs. 40,000, the police said.

In another case, three persons snatched gold chain worth Rs. 65,000 from Girija Shetty in Kotekani in Urwa Police Station limits on   Friday, April 11th evening. Girija Shetty was standing outside her house, said a report.
