Udupi, Feb 21, 2017: District in-charge Minister Pramod Madhwaraj has informed that the Centre has issued a gazette notification banning undertaking of any work including house repair works in the Coastal Regulation zone limits.
Addressing a tri-monthly KDP review meeting held at the ZP meeting Hall on February 20, Monday, the Minister sought explanation from the officials regarding the notification. Responding to the same, an official informed that as January 31 was the last day for the Coastal Management Plan 2016, the notification has now come in order to attain status quo and to ensure no work is done. He also stated that a new order may be issued when a new plan was ready.
The meeting also deliberated on various issues including maintenance of vented dams under Varahi project, highway work discrepancies as well as the toll gate controversy.
Sand shortage issue also came up for discussion. When MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary wanted to have a clarification on the issue, the Panchayat Executive Officer said there was no shortage of sand for government projects and housing schemes. PWD officer Chandrashekar said 82 loads of sand have been extracted from 2 blocks in non-CRZ zones of Karkala while in Kundapur taluk 262 loads sand has been extracted from 2 blocks.
