Mangaluru, May 9, 2020: Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel has said that train services would be arranged for the migrant workers from other states who are stranded in Dakshina Kannada due to lockdown.
Participating in a meeting convened here on May 8, Friday the MP said the Union Govenmetn has agreed to arrange for train services and that he has spoken to Railway Minister Suresh Angadi in this regard.
Addressing the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh said as many as 20,000 migrant workers have registered under Seva Sindhu and that of these 4,000 are from Bihar, 3,000 from Uttar Pradesh and 5,000 from Jarkhand.
DK District in-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary who presided over the function said the administration has sought 20 train services for migrant workers from Dakshina Kannada.
City Police Commissioner P S Harsha, MLA of Mangaluru South Vedavayas Kamath and others attended the meeting.
