Catholic Sabha demands renaming of Mangaluru Junction Railway Station after Late George Fernandes

Mangaluru, Feb 6, 2018: The Mangaluru Pradesh Catholic Sabha which convened a condolence meeting at the Bejai Church Hall here on February 5, Tuesday has resolved to urge the Government to name the Mangaluru Junction Railway Station at Kankanady after the former defence minister late George Fernandes.

Ivan D’Souza, MLC and Parliamentary Secretary  who  spoke at the meeting  said there is also a demand to set  up a bust of George Fernandes at Bejai Circle and also to name the Bejai New road after George.

Mangaluru Diocese Bishop Rev Dr Peter Paul Saldanha  who also spoke, said though George Fernandes was no more, his life and achievements will forever serve as an inspiration for all. He has contributed immensely to the coastal districts through Konkan Railway Project, the Bishop added.

Ananth Asranna, Hereditary Priest of Kateel Shree Durga Parameshwari Temple recollected the contributions of late George Fernandes.

George’s brother Michael Fernandes, in his address, said George who  never tolerated corruption had  always  fought against corruption without any selfish motives.

Thonse Jaya Krishna Shetty, President of Jayakrishna Parisara Samithi, former Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Harikrishna Punaroor,  Parishat President Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, Catholic Sabha Mangaluru Pradesh President  Rolphy D’Costa and  others were present.
