Car, bike gutted near Konaje : handiwork of petrol thieves?

Mangaluru, Dec 29, 2015: An incident  wherein an  Innova car and a  motorbike  were found burnt  was reported from  Amblamogaru Madaka in Konaje police station limits late night on December 28, Monday. The suspicion now is that the vehicles were torched by some people who had arrived there with an intention of pilfering fuel from  the vehicles. Meanwhile police have arrested two persons on suspicion.

The vehicles belonged to a person named Jabbar. The fire which had engulfed the vehicles had even damaged the wall of the house resulting in cracks. The loss has been estimated at around Rs 10 lakhs.

The incident had occurred at around 1.30 am  when the occupants of the house were fast asleep. A neighbouring boy who noticed the fire, had raised a cry following which the occupants of the house as well as neighbours rushed to the spot and put out the fire.

Handiwork of petrol thieves : Meanwhile, locals point out that a petrol theft racket was active in the area and there have been instances of  pilfering petrol from the vehicles by some youth who loiter around after consuming intoxicants. The suspicion now is that the fuel thieves might have switched on their lighter when it might have suddenly ignited a fire.
