Canara schools Association’s World Peace Day marked

Mangaluru, Sep 22, 2016: The students of Canara High School (CHS) Association observed World Peace Day on the campus of Canara Higher Primary School, Urwa on Sept 21,Wednesday, the martyrdom of 18 Indian Army soldiers at Uri was not lost on them. The students acknowledged that history has record of wars. Peace is still a dream. People talk of peace but prepare for war. In order to spread the message of peace around the world, September 21 is observed as International Day of Peace.

Paying homage to the martyred soldiers by reading out their names, the students and the CHS Association condemned the act of cowardice by the terrorists. Saluting the martyrs, the gathering asserted that the nation will not forget their sacrifice. The school has been promoting peace and teaching children to resolve any conflict peacefully. "But in the Uri case, we whole heartedly support the Prime minister in whatever action he takes," the association asserted.

In doing so, the association believes it is teaching the children to be assertive and fight for their rights peacefully and not give in to any sort of atrocities by any one. In the city, schools and colleges under Canara High School Association have taken steps to promote peace in lives of children by organizing various activities. The association has conducted a programme ’Hope for Peace @ Canara and beyond’, it distributed peace lamps and motivated others to do so.

The students later formed the peace chain as well as the World Peace Day formation. There was chanting of peace message as well. "Peace is mother of progress. Without peace, nation cannot make any progress. World-peace is necessary," was the message that students sent out. Ranganath Bhat, honorary secretary, CHS Association, Shubha Bhat, headmistress, Canara H S, Lalana Shenoy, headmistress, CHPS, and office bearers of the association were present along with students.
