Campaign on ‘Child Helpline Se Dosti’ to utilise helpline 1098 service better in twin districts

Udupi/Mangaluru, Nov 14, 2019:   Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Sadashiv Prabhu said the week-long campaign on ‘Child Helpline Se Dosti’ (1098), organised by Child Helpline, India Foundation, will be launched in Udupi from November 14, Thursday, today - Children’s day. 

 

The ADC told media on Nov 13, Wednesday that the programme is organised by the Udupi district administration in association with the Zilla Panchayat, District Legal Services Authority and the district child helpline.  The campaign is being launched across the country.

ADC Prabhu said that November is being commemorated as the month of Human Rights. The month will be marked by organising many children-centric  programmes. The campaign is an attempt to introduce the people, the beneficiaries and children to the child helpline 1098, he added. He said Zilla Panchayat president Dinaker Babu will inaugurate the campaign at Olakadu Government Composite High School.

Explaining the number of cases registered   under the child helpline in the past six months in the district, ADC Prabhu said 164 cases have been reported.  As many as 148 among the total 164 cases were disposed of and 14 are being looked into, he said.

He sought the cooperation of various departments, including the police department, to solve the cases and ensure justice to children.

The campaign will create awareness among the masses on how to access the child helpline (1098).  The children in distress can easily avail of the benefits and seek effective redressal of their grievances,  he added.

ADC Prabhu said people can approach the child helpline (1098) if they come across any violation of child rights. The elders can help the children, being victimised, to approach the child helpline, he said.

District child helpline director Ramachandra Upadhyaya said the children should use the child helpline 1098 and also elders to bring to light unreported violation of child rights.  ADC Prabhu released the publicity materials on ‘Child Helpline Se Dosti’ campaign on the occasion.

In Mangaluru, childline 1098 asks NGOs to help children in distress  : 
All non-government organisations should join hands with Child Helpline to provide support to children in distress, DK District Childline 1098 convener Deekshitha Acharapady has said.

The convener said on Nov 13,  Wednesday that the move has been taken under the ‘Child Helpline Se Dosti’ campaign.

“The week-long ‘Child Helpline Se Dosti’ campaign will be inaugurated at School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, at 4.30 pm, today Nov 14,  Thursday - Children’s day.  A padayatra to create awareness about Childline 1098 will be organised from the District Wenlock hospital till the DK DC tomorrow,  November 15,” Acharapady added.

Schedule  :  “Childline 1098 will organise awareness programmes against child marriages at religious centres in and around Panambur on November 16 and on cyber crime and internet in schools on November 17. A motorbike rally is being planned from the DK DC’s office to Ambedkar (Jyothi) Circle via Nanthoor Junction on the same day,” the convener listed out.

“Childline 1098 will organise a Makkala Grama Sabha on November 18 and games for inmates of Lions Special School in Surathkal. Childline 1098 has received 430 complaints from April to September this year and 15 children in distress have been counselled by the staff of the childline,” she added.
