CWC hands over case of girl child to Prajna counselling

Mangaluru, July 16,2015 : Regarding the incident of a childless couple "illegally adopting" daughter of Jacintha Fernandes and Cashmir Fernandes at Kakkinje in Belthangady recently reported here, the Child Welfare Committee has handed over the girl to Prajna, a Fit institution.


prajna counselling A release from CWC Chairman said as the adoption by Prem Kumar and Margaret, residents of Kakkinje in Belthangady taluk is illegal as it has not been carried out as per the as per JJ Act 2000, the CWC did not have any reason to send the girl with the adopted parents. 


On the other hand, the child did not wish to go back to her biological parents. Hence, it was decided to send the child to Prajna till further orders.


In the meantime, the biological parents will be allowed to meet the child. An atmosphere will be created for the girl to accept her biological parents.


In fact, on October 29, 2014, the CWC had declared that the adoption at sub registrar office in Belthangady on August 19, 2013 as invalid. When the child was questioned on December 17, 2014, she had refused to go back to her biological parents and said that she would continue her education with her adopted parents.


The biological parents of the child had agreed for the same. Later, the biological parents alleged that the couple who had adopted their daughter was not allowing them to visit her daughter. Even when the girl was produced before the CWC on July 15, 2015, she had reportedly told the counsellors of the CWC that she would stay with her adopted parents. Hence, the matter is delicate.
