CREST for Kashmir’ Cup to start today, October 16

Mangalore, Oct 16, 2014: As part of the ‘CREST for Kashmir,’ an initiative launched by CREST (Creating Resource to Empower Society Today), the youth wing of Centre for Integrated Learning, is set  to organise  ‘CREST for Kashmir’ Cup 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament at the Mangala Outdoor Basketball Stadium from October 16.  The event is being organised by CREST in association with Mangalore Basketball Club.

The tournament will be organised in different categories -boys, girls, men’s and women’s open.   This tournament is a fund raiser to help the needy people of Kashmir,   devastated by the floods in September.  The event will be inaugurated by Mayor Mahabala Marla in the presence of President of MBC Naveen Shetty.

While the registration is on for the tournament, teams can also register on the spot on october 16. The matches will be played in a league format and open to all. While the prelims will be played on October 16 & 17 (today & tomorrow), the semi-finals and finals will be played on Saturday October 18.

Various activities have been planned as part of the ‘CREST for Kashmir’ initiative which include old newspaper collection drive, resource mobilisation through door-to-door campaign among other activities. A mall event will also be organised in the first week of November.

“The response to the initiative has been overwhelming and that we shall be utilising the resources mobilised to identify and rehabilitate a particular deserving  village in Kashmir,” said Arun Mallya, Coordinator of the initiative.
