Addressing the members, CPI (M) Mangaluru South Secretary Sunil Kumar Bajal said people as well as the party had strongly protested the then Deputy Commissioner Bharat Lal Meena’s decision to shift the private bus stand outside the city. The then bus stand at Hampanakatte was temporarily shifted to Sate Bank and even after 15 years, the authorities had failed to provide a proper bus stand for Mangaluru, he said.

A fee was collected from every bus being operated from the bus stand, and the accumulated amount of over Rs. 3.5 crore is lying with the Mangaluru City Corporation,  Bajal said. The passengers were made to suffer at the temporary bus stand with lack of proper shelters and other basic amenities, while the MCC was shirking its responsibility, he said.

Thousands in danger at ’State Bank Bus terminal’.

Many years have passed since the State Bank Bus Terminal Road, just near the DC’s office was concreted and thousands who use this place everyday were promised a better deal. Even after many years now there is no salvation for the common human. The sides of the sharp edges of the road and the rough side ditches are not taken care of and foot paths are a myth in this city, where they are essential. School kids, aged and sick are seen falling due to the uneven sides and are badly injured at this major Bus terminal . The poor passengers plight is pathetic. Neither the hundreds of  bus operators care,  nor is the attitude of the Govt officials and leaders any better. A reasonable level walking surface  and waiting area in such a busy bus terminal is a minimal need to ask at this vital crowded spot. Let the  authorities take heart and set right this simple long awaited crying need of the common citizen.
