CPI(M) announces candidates for four Assembly segments in DK

Mangaluru, Mar 06, 2018 : The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Monday released the list of contestants for four constituencies in Dakshina Kannada.

 

It will field Muneer Katipalla, president of the State unit of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) from Mangaluru City North; Sunil Kumar Bajal, secretary of the party’s Mangaluru city south unit, from Mangaluru City South; Nitin Kumar Kuttar, an advocate, from Mangaluru constituency, and K. Yadava Shetty, general secretary of Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha (KPRS) from Moodbidri.

Announcing it at a press conference here, Vasantha Achari, secretary, Dakshina Kannada unit of the party, said that the party would take on the “soft Hindutva” of the Congress and its failure in controlling the communal violence, especially in the coastal belt, during the campaign.

He said that though the Congress promised to bring in a law to effectively curb communal violence it did not act upon it.

He said that the BJP on the other hand has not addressed the issues beyond its Hindutva agenda.

It would expose the double standards of the BJP and Sangh Parivar in glorifying the murders of Hindus in the State.

The BJP and Sangh Parivar are talking about only those who have been murdered by people of other religion. They are silent on the murders of Hindu youths such as Harish Poojary of Bantwal, Praveen Poojary of Udupi and Vinayak Baliga of Mangaluru by workers of its affiliate organisations.

Mr. Achari said that the Union government led by the BJP has failed to create job opportunities for youths and control corruption. To a question he said that the CPI (M) was facing internal trouble in its Belthangady unit and hence the party has not announced the candidate for Belthangady constituency.

It has expelled one of its leaders B.M. Bhat for “anti-party activities” in Belthnagady.

The party would take a decision on whom to support in Bantwal, Sullia, Puttur and Belthangady Assembly segments in the district from where it would not field its candidates.

He said that the CPI (M) would continue to take up the issues of beedi workers in the district. They required alternative employment opportunities.
