Education will help to empower the children to lead an independent life, he said and also directed officials to provide BPL cards to the inhabitants.

Udupi DC Priyanka Mary Francis said an anganwadi will start  in the area soon.

A proposal to lay a road in the area at a cost of Rs 50 lakh has been mooted. Land has been purchased at a cost of Rs 7 lakh for the purpose, she added.

Most families here survive by either singing songs, playing music on streets or by predicting astrology. The houses have water and electricity connections. The families, originally hailing from Uttar Kannada district, migrated to Udupi at least 20 years ago.
