CCTV cameras in sensitive city locations soon

Mangaluru, Nov 26, 2015 : With Dakshina Kannada falling to communal disturbances, the State government wants to install CCTV - closed circuit television  cameras to monitor activities in sensitive locations.


CCTV cameras The government has sanctioned Rs. 70 lakh to install CCTV cameras at sensitive locations, according to DK DC Adoor .B. Ibrahim.


Out of that Rs. 35 lakh has been released to the Police Department, he told a peace committee meeting on Nov 25.

DK SP Sharanappa S.D., said that tenders would be invited for installing them.  He added  that managing committees of places of worship have been requested to install CCTV cameras too.

A participant suggested that all apartments in the city could be directed to fix CCTV cameras facing roads to monitor the movement of people in case of trouble.

The Superintendent of Police denied allegations that the police were arresting innocent people in incidents relating to communal trouble. He said that arrests have been made based on videography done by police footage from CCTV cameras.

“You (those who make such allegations) don’t visit the spot. You don’t have accurate information. But still argue that some of the arrested persons are innocent. The allegations are without any basis,” he said.

SP  Sharanappa said that police are taking some time before arresting persons involved in crime to ensure that the arrests are made with proper evidence.
