M NarayananMangaluru, August 29, 2017: Controversial self-styled Godman and Dera Sachha Sauda Chief Baba Ram Rahim Singh is currently cooling his heels behind bars after being  sentenced to 20 years jail in a rape case. To know that the investigation into this  high profile case was first  initiated by a CBI officer of Kasargod origin is  interesting.  The  officer named Mulinja Narayayan  who is now retired  hails from Uppala and was holding the post of CBI Joint Director when he retired from service.

It was in the year 2007 that the Punjab and Haryana High Court had ordered handing over to the CBI the case which was until then limping due to political pressure. Though there was much pressure even after entrusting the case to CBI,. Narayayan, the then CBI officer had went ahead with the investigation undeterred.

Naryayan led team had even been to the Sirsa Ashram of the Godman where he gave them just 30 minutes time. The team which went inside the Ashram was in for a rude shock as the interiors were in no way less than a five star  hotel.

The officials had grilled Ram Rahim for over three hours. The Narayanan led team had went ahead with the investigation undeterred by  pressures. It is now believed that justice has finally been done with the accused being awarded jail term.

He even recalls those investigation years when there was no mobile phone and his wife used to  dread whenever he did not return  home for several days.

Responding to the recent court verdict, Narayanan says he has the satisfaction that his  investigation has finally yielded result.

Presently residing in Delhi post retirment , Narayanan had graduated in science from Vidyanagar Government College in 1970 following which he had joined CBI. In 2009 he was holding the post of CBI Joint Director  when he retir ed from service.

Known as a honest officer, he was part of the team that investigated former PM Rajeev Gandhi  murder case, Babri demolition case, Kandahar plane hijacking  and several other cases.

’I was asked to close case against Ram Rahim’
"It was in 2007 that this case was handed over to me by two senior officials and I was asked to close it," Narayanan said.

"We went to his (Dera chief) place in Sirsa. Ram Rahim gave me 30 minutes time. He lives in a cave with all modern facilities. We reached there and grilled him for over three hours. I will never blame the two senior officials who asked me to close the case as there was lot of pressure," said Narayanan.
