CASK 104th Annual general body meeting held

Mangaluru, Sep 18,2017: Catholic Association of South Kanara, which more than a century old in Mangaluru, met for the 104th AGM on September 17, Sunday at Avila Hall of St.Agnes College.  The rules stipulate that at least 25 members must be present, however, there was good attendance and the meeting progressed as per the agenda.

The CASK President Richard Rodrigues, welcomed the gathering who made it a point to attend in spite of the inclement weather that has been prevailing in Mangaluru. He made a brief presentation on the functioning and achievements that CASK had made in recent times. After the remembrance of departed members the minutes of the last AGM on Sept 18, 2016 was presented by the Joint Secretary Dr.Anand Pereira, and passed. The secretary Mario Saldanha, tabled the Annual Report which was approved and passed. The treasurer Walter D’Sa presented the accounts and the auditors for the next year were appointed.

Dr. Michael Lobo :  The prominent community genealogist and author was given a few minutes before the  end of the meeting to present his case to the community about  refurbishing the Bijey Church flooring which would cause all the memorabilia like the old graves inside the church to be lost to posterity.

He mentioned that  identification is important in the process of his bringing out a book titled “Catholic Heritage Tombstones of Mangalore”, where all the major tombstones in the churches and cemeteries of Mangalore are being catalogued – with detailed notes on the families and descendants of the deceased persons – so that the descendants will have no trouble in locating the tombstones of their departed ancestors in the future, as there is a lot of interest in this from families far and wide.  Noting that each memorial slab in churches and each monument in cemeteries form part of a heritage, Dr Lobo feels that each tombstone is an important link with our past and the inscription on each tombstone has a story to tell.  Note: Dr.Lobo’s article n this regard can be found in the "Mangalore Today" magazine of September 2017.

 After completing all the business set out in the Agenda; Capt Vincent Pais, Vice-President gave the vote of thanks in which all concerned were specially extended appreciation. In particular the immediate past president Dr. Derek Lobo, who is also the Mg Trustee of the CASK Centenary Trust  and Patsy Lobo the editor of the ’Mangalore’ magazine were thanked specially.
