Buses to be extended till Old Bunder: DC Subodh Yadav

Mangalore, April 19: DC Subodh Yadav said that he will ensure the extension of city buses to Old Bunder for the benefit of the fishing community during a meeting convened to discuss fishing issues on April 18, Monday.

Deputy commissioner Subodh Yadav said that the steps would be taken to extend the services of city bus route numbers 26 and 32, and a few others up to old port at Bunder to serve the interests of fishermen.

The fishermen later complained that certain miscreants have been threatening them and forcing them to part with expensive catch such as pomfrets and prawns, which are in great demand. They requested the DC to protect them from these bullies.

The fishermen drew the attention of the DC that gangs of armed men were threatening fishermen and forcibly taking away their catch that included select varieties of marine catch including shrimp, seer fish and pomfret.

The meeting also discussed about the need to desilt the Gurupur river, as well as the single point mooring jetty that MPRL-ONGC is planning to construct some 16 km from the coast.
