Brahmavar land issue, BJP threatens protest

Mangalore Today News Network

Udupi, July 25,2016: Speaking to media, former MLA Raghupathy Bhat threatened that BJP would stage a huge protest and would lay seige to Brahmavar taluk office on July 25, Monday, if the land offered to Karnataka Housing Board at Indiranagar in Varamaballi Gram Panchayat in Brahmavar is not withdrawn.

Raghupathy Bhat Bhat charged that the ruling Congress government has sold six acres of land out of 13.20 acres of land, earlier earmarked for setting up of the taluk office complex, comprising administrative structures following the taluk formation in Brahmavar.   He said the proposal to set up the taluk office was started by the former BJP-led government under the leadership of former chief minister Jagadish Shettar in 2013.  The taluk formation dream has been nurtured from the past 25-30 years and Rs 2 crore has been set aside for the purpose, he added.

He said the land was earmarked for the administrative structure during 1990s and 13.20 acres of land was reserved at Indirangara.  The measures taken up by the Congress government, wherein the six acres of land is handed over to the Karnataka Housing Board, which has indulged in real estate businesses, shows that the government has dropped the proposal of the taluk formation. The Housing Board has purchased the land paying Rs 1.80 crore, which means it has paid Rs 30,000 per cent of land.  The pamphlet which is being distributed all over advertising the availability of land by the Housing Board has mentioned that the buyer should purchase the land at the rate of Rs 2.30 lakh per cent.

Even after the formalities, a cent of land can cost Rs 1.20 lakh in the area. It has turned out to be a true business. The layout of 5.34 cents is being offered as a single site, he claimed.   Bhat demanded that let the government offer land to the Housing Board in the interior area and  the land which is already handed over should be taken back and kept aside for the purpose.  He said that a huge protest rally would be taken out from Brahmavar Bus Stand up to taluk office against the Congress government’s move on July 25 - Today.
