Boy injured, houses damaged in lightning strike in Kundapur

Mangaluru, May 30, 2015:  Several parts of the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi received good rainfall on Friday bringing much relief from the scorching heat.  Thunder and lightning were also reported from some places.

lightning strike in KundapurThe weather remained cloudy almost the whole day on Friday. Meanwhile in Kundapur lightning strike has seriously injured a boy while several houses were damaged. Mangaluru, Mulki, Kinnigoli, Punjalakatte, Vittal, Siddakatte, Punjalakatte, Rayi, Bantwal, Naravi and other places received good rainfall.

Boy injured, houses damaged in Kundapur: In Kundapur, rains accompanied by thunder and lightning caused some damage. A 14 year old boy Nitish Shetty (14) sustained critical injuries owing to lightning strike at Kenchanur Jaadi. He has been admitted to Manipal hospital. Several houses and cattle sheds in the area were also damaged due to lightning. The farm of Somashekhar Shetty of Kenchanur, a progressive farmer suffered suffered losses while the electrical wiring of his house too has been burnt due to lightning strike. Even the house of Papamma of Janatha Colony in Kedoor suffered damages. However no one was injured.

Low lying areas in Kundapur taluk were inundated due to heavy rains, while traffic on the NH where works are underway was also affected due to water logging.
