Mangaluru, April 7, 2016 : Residents of Bola in Naringana Gram Panchayat limits staged a protest right on mid road to condemn the moves of some people operating a stone quarry in the region, to expand the quarry by encroaching a road prominently used by locals. The protestors complained that the road which the quarry owners were trying to encroach was used by hundreds of people and leads to places of worship, several houses, an educational institution as well as a grave yard.
The protestors complained that their several appeals against the stone quarry as well as the crusher unit operating in the area, have fallen on deaf ears with no action following.
Responding to the complaints of the protestors, Ismail Meenankody, President of Naringana Gram Panchayat said that the Panchayat team had visited the place and stopped the efforts made to expand the quarry area.
He said the Panchayat has inspected the documents of the quarry operator Vishwanath Shetty and found that he had a permit valid till 2017. At the same time, Ismail said the Panchayat has directed Shetty not to encroach the road used by the public and that he has assured to stop the work.
