Boat engines stolen, 2 held

PADUBIDRI, AUG 10, 2014: The Padubidri police have arrested two persons for stealing engines fitted to country fishing boats. The arrested are Husain alias Salim (43), a resident of Permannur and Ismail Hussain (46) of Ullala Kodi. When the police waylaid an autorickshaw during night beat, the auto refused to stop. The alert police chased and stopped the autorickshaw and seized the engines. The engines were being taken to Mangalore.

During the interrogation, the duo confessed to stealing more than 25 engines at Manjeshwar, Ullal, Bengre, Bolar, Bunder, Mukka, Gangolli and Malpe ports and so on.  The stolen engines were sold in Gujarat using fake documents. The fish fertiliser laden lorries from Gujarat h were used to transport  the engines. Acting on a tip off, the police have seized the lorry which was engaged to transport the engines. The police have seized engines worth Rs 5.5 lakh. The accused were into fishing and investigations are on.
