Boat capsizes off Someshwar coast; 7 fishermen rescued

Mangalore, Dec 26, 2012: Seven fishermen aboard a fishing vessel which capsized off the Someshwar coast, were lucky enough , thanks to the crew  of another boat who came to their rescue.

The incident took place on the night of December 25, Tuesday, when the fishing boat “Ashtil” collided with the wreckage of MV Asian Forest’ a Hongkong based vessel that had sunk  in 2009.

Soon the boat developed a crack and water began to seep in, much  to the worry of the fishermen aboard. But, help came their way when crew of another boat “Pundalika’ on noticing that they were in distress, rescued the stranded fishermen.

The loss due to the mishap has been estimated at Rs 30 Lakh. The rescued fishermen are Ravi, Antony, Pasan, Muruganandam, Selvakumar and Parameshwar.
