Mangaluru, Dec 10, 2014:    Speaking at a peace meeting here on December 9,  former MLC Monappa Bhandary said that though many incidents of exploitation are on going against Hindu community at least 18 months now, in the form of illegal cow trafficking and Love Jihad in coastal districts, no action is forthcoming by the district administration and police.

The community always believed in law, but now people are losing their faith which is resulting in these kinds of incidents, he said.   Leaders of various organisations blamed failure of district administration and Mangaluru City Police for violence which resulted in lathicharge in Ulaibettu, stabbing of two persons and injuries to many including police personnel during Gurupur bandh call given by Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishat.

CPM leader Yadav Shetty too urged police to book culprits without looking into their caste or community or falling to political pressure. Meanwhile, he asked police to give information about Love Jihad and conversion.

Hindu Jagarana Vedike State Convenor Sathyajit Surathkal alleged that the police are following different laws to different communities. Police should remember that moral policing is going on from both sides. Though Hindu organisations submitted the result of illegal slaughter houses, police didn’t take any action. In Ulaibettu, even women had come to stage protest. People come to streets only when they lose faith in law. Though Hindu organisations are protesting for justice from several months, police didn’t care. They should understand that this is rage of common man and not of Hindus. “We are not against any community. Though the Supreme Court has put restriction on Bang (using mikes at mosques), we don’t demand to implement it. But, every community should let others live peacefully,” he said.

Former minister Krishna J Palemar targeted Police Commissioner R Hithendra and alleged that crime rate has increased during his period. The department has failed to punish culprits who have attacked.  There should be fear and respect about police among public. Officials should not act according to the political pressure and culprits should be punished, he said.

Nagarika Hitarakshana Vedike President Hanumanta Kamath also blamed the police department’s failure in Ulaibettu incident. Police officers should be given free hand. Peace meetings should be convened in every police station once in every three months as earlier.

Former Speaker Yogish Bhat requested police not to arrest people just for the sake of number. Many of those who are in hospitals are from very poor families. They have no money even to pay to the hospital. Vishwa Hindu Parishat leader Prof M B Puranik said that the administration should not let grow the feeling of insecurity among Hindus.

Muslim assns boycott   :   Muslim organisations boycotted the peace meeting for different reasons. Though Popular Front of India (PFI) and Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) leaders were present in the meet at the beginning, PFI leader A M Atavullah said that District-in-Charge Minister B Ramanath Rai should have been present in the meeting. He alleged that Ulaibettu limit MLA Mohiuddin Bava was not invited for the meeting and those who are behind the incident have been invited. He and all supporters boycotted meeting as a mark of protest. The Muslim Central Committee and Samyuktha Muslim Jamath also boycotted the meeting. Even, few Hindu organisation leaders opined that Muslim organisation leaders should have come to the meeting so that they could share their opinions directly. However, the DC said that it is responsibility of the district administration to convene a meeting, but it can’t be made mandatory for the participation of parties.
