Dr. Parameshwara said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had come to power promising the moon to the people. But he had not delivered on these promises. There had been a sharp rise in law and order issues ever since the BJP came to power in the country.  With the result, people had lost faith in the Modi government.

On the State government’s decision to celebrate the birth anniversary of Tipu Sultan, Dr. Parameshwara said the government believed that Tipu Sultan was a patriot and had fought against the British. The very fact that he helped the Sringeri Mutt during his rule showed that he was tolerant. There could be different views about Tipu Sultan’s rule. People were free to express their views.

“Any body trying to create any law and order problem on this issue will be dealt as per law. We will make adequate security arrangements for the birth anniversary celebrations,” he said.

Regarding the shortage of personnel in the Police Department, he said that there was a shortage of nearly 25 per cent of personnel in the department. His predecessor K.J. George had initiated steps to recruit 8,000 police constables. This process would be completed soon, he said.

The sting operation controversy surrounding the Social Welfare Minister H. Anjaneya, he said that he had not sent any report to the party high command. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah would give a report after seeking the details of the controversy from  Anjaneya and the matter needs examination.

On the problem of “moral policing” in the coastal districts, he said that it was “not moral policing but immoral policing.” Legal action would be taken against those indulging in such acts, he said. To another query, he said that the government would monitor the social media. If anybody was found using the social media for illegal activities or provoking people, action would be taken against them. All matters will be seriously looked at.
