Bhatkal, Oct 2, 2015 : Tension prevailed outside the Bhatkal police station on September 30, Wednesday night when hundreds of locals gathered and staged a protest against the police who they alleged had assaulted a youth who was transporting cattle. Even leaders of Majlis-e-Islah-o-Tanzeem who were part of the protest gheraoed the station and demanded action against the inspector.
The injured youth Mohammad Raiyan (22) who has been admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru had alleged that the cops who had intercepted him while he was transporting cattle from Telangana, had thrashed him after he turned down their demand for bribe.
A friend of Mohammad who was with him when the incident took place, had reportedly told that the police attacked Mohammad after checking his vehicle records. It has also been alleged that the inspector had summoned Mohammad to the station and had demanded bribe. Sources said the documents of cattle transportation which Mohammad had though were valid, the SI had asked him to make a false statement before the DySP.
The inspector however has denied the allegations. Meanwhile, locals have threatened to intensify stir if the problem was not addressed to
