Belthangady, June 26, 2020: Thieves who broke into a house at Kalmanja village in Belthangady taluk during the wee hours of June 26, Friday have decamped with cash and valuables worth Rs 13 lakhs after tying down the family members. The stolen valuables include 40 sovereigns gold, one kg silver and a cash of Rs 25,000. The robbery took place in the house of Achyut Bhat who is an areca merchant in Ujire.
It is learnt the family members had opened the door in the night when dogs had begun to bark. Soon after the masked robbers barged into the house, tied down the family members, threatened to kill them if they informed the police and then decamped with the booty.
Senior police officers have visited the spot and investigations are underway.
