Belthangady: Suspected Dengue claims youth’s life

Belthangady, June 17, 2015: A youth from Katajemane in Neriya village of the taluk has succumbed to suspected Dengue. This is the first case of death in the district due to suspected dengue.

However, Health Department sources have not yet confirmed that the death was due to Dengue.


In fact the first Dengue case in the district this year was reported from Belthangady taluk itself.  It was only after several media reports highlighted the failure of the authorities to take precautionary measures that the District Health Officer visited the taluk  to  take stock of the situation.

According to Health Department statistics, 265 people in the taluk are suffering from suspected dengue.

Meanwhile, District Health Officer Dr Ramakrishna Rao has said that  the cause of Umesh’s death would be known only after the medical report is out.
