Belthangady, Aug 12, 2019: Chief Minister who is in the district on August 12, Monday to have a firsthand account of the losses incurred by floods, visited Kukkavu village in Belthangady and interacted with the affected people. He assured the flood victims that the government would provide a compensation of Rs 5 lakhs towards construction of new houses for those whose houses have been completely destroyed in the floods.
The CM visited the victims at the relief camp set up in Kukkavu village. He also stated that the government would provide Rs 5,000 rent allowance for those who have lost their houses and Rs one lakh for those whose houses have been partially damaged.
The CM said as an immediate measure all families in the relief camps will get a compensation of Rs 10,000.
MLCs Ivan D’Souza and Harish Kumar submitted memoranda to the CM seeking a separate flood relief package to Dakshina Kannada district and Belthangady taluk respectively.
Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil, Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLA Harish Poonja, ZP Chief Meenakshi Shantigodu and others were present.
