Mangaluru, August 20, 2015: The Dubai-based Bearys Cultural Forum would distribute scholarships to 600 economically backward Pre-University College students and wheel-chairs to 60 physically challenged people in Dakshina Kannada district this year, B K Yusuf, president of the Forum, said today.
The programme would be inaugurated by state Health Minister U T Khader on August 23, he said at a press meet here.
Kaup Mohammed, the dean from UAE London American city college, would hold a career symposium on the day.
The DK district-in-charge Minister B Ramanath Rai, state Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, Nalin Kumar Kateel MP, Alva’s Education Foundation chairman Mohan Alva and MLAs J R Lobo and Mohiyuddin Bava would take part in the function, he said.
A felicitation programme for students and others from the district who achieved glory in sporting events would also be held.
BCF scholarship committee president Usman Mulur and the Forum patron B A Mumtaz Ali were present at the press meet.
The Beary community is an ethnic society concentrated in Dakshina Kannada in coastal Karnataka and Kerala’s Kasaragod district.
