Beary Sahithya Academy organizes cultural competitions

Mangalore, Jul 27: The Karnataka Beary Sahithya Academy organized the Beary literary and cultural competition at Town Hall on July 27, Tuesday. More than fifty people participated in these competitions. Prizes were distributed to the winners during its valedictory programme.

The first prizes in Beary singing, Moilanji, poetry recitation, chutuku, and quiz competitions were won by Rasheed Nandavara, Ashiqa Ismaeel, Shameem Kuttikala, Basheer Ahmed, and Abdul Rahman, respectively.

Principal of Ganapathy Pre University College Chandrakala Nandavara, who was the chief guest of its valedictory programme, spoke in appreciation of the rich history and glorious cultural and religious tradition of the Beary community.

Former President of the Karnataka Tulu Sahithya Academy M. Seetharam Kulal called upon Beary intellectuals to write in the Beary language. A language cannot be said to be inferior because it has no script because the international language English also has no script of its own, he said. He advised the Beary Academy to try making Beary an optional subject in schools.
 
MLA U. T. Khader said that the establishment of the Beary Academy was the first step toward the development of Beary language and culture.

President of the Beary Academy presided over the programme. Hamza Malar, the journalist, was also present. Registrar Chandrahas Rai B. delivered the welcome and introductory speeches.
