Basheer allegedly assaulted by right wing activists at Kottara dead

Basheer dies of injuriesMangaluru, Jan 7, 2018: Bashir (47), who was brutally assaulted allegedly by right wing activists on January 3, died at a private hospital here on Sunday morning.

The attack had happened on the night after BJP worker Deepak Rao was hacked to death at nearby Katipalla allegedly by four Muslim youth. Bashir’s assailants, upon their arrest by police on Saturday, reportedly confessed that the attack was an act of revenge.

Bashir was attacked when he was about to close his eatery at Kottara Chowki in the city. It has been reported that he was left lying in a pool of blood for considerable time before two persons, including an ambulance driver Shekhar, got him admitted to the nearby A.J. Hospital where he was treated till death. Bashir was a resident of Akasha Bhavna.

Hospital and police sources confirmed Bashir’s death. Police have upped the number of policemen, particularly in view of the CM’s visit today.

Four persons have been arrested by the CCB cops in connection with the case. Those arrested are Shreejith P K alias Shreeju (25) of Uppala, Kishan Poojary (21)  and Dhanush Poojary (22),  both brothers and residents of Padil, and Sandesh Kotian (22) of Kunjathur, Manjeshwar.


As news of Basheed’s death spread, hundreds gathered at M J Hospital for viewing the body. Hakeem requested the people gathered there to maintain peace, law and order.

Hakeem informed the media that Basheer’s body would be taken home to Akash Bhavan for the women of the family to view it and later to the Kuloor masjid for public viewing and burial.

Amidst tight police security all last rites were be performed.ADGP Kamal Kanth visited the hospital. MLA Moiuddin Bava was at the spot.

Minister U T Khader who visited the spot announced a relief of Rs 10 lakh for the family and appealed to people to maintain peace.
