Bantwal : Joint operation by officials ; 800 load sand found stocked illegally

 Bantwal, Sep 24, 2016 : Following complaints from members of the general public that sand was being illegally stocked and sold at Sarapady and Sangabettu, a team of officials of Mines and Revenue Department led by the Assistant Commissioner of Mangaluru have in a joint operation    traced nearly  800 loads of sand stocked  in various places at  Sarapady, Maninalkur and Sangabettu.  The total  value of the seized sand is estimated at around Rs 29.60  lakhs.

If 530 loads of sand was traced at Sarapady and Maninalkur, in Sangabettu 300 loads of sand was traced.

 Officials said attempts were underway to transport the sand to some other places. It is worth mentioning here that construction works are hit for want of adequate sand, while it is a fact that sand is also illegally stocked in several places and sold at  higher prices.

Sources said in some cases sand is sold for as high as Rs 12,000 to Rs 15,000 per load while its actual rate was well within Rs 4,000.
