Bantwal : BJP men allegedly attack Minister Rai’s close aide Sanjeeva Poojary, his wife

Mangaluru, May 11, 2018: In a shocking incident reported from Marnabail in Melkar, a  Congress leader  from Bantwal and his wife were attacked allegedly by BJP workers by barging into their house on May 10, Thursday night.

The injured Congress leader is Sanjeeva Poojary, the President of Bantwal Congress Election Campaign Committee who is also a  close aide of DK District in-charge Minister  B Ramanatha  Rai. He is a Billawa leader and also happens to be the President of the Brahmashree Narayana Guru Mandir.

The  assailants not only attacked Poojary and his wife but also  his employees. He is learnt to have suffered serious injuries. The incident occurred when Poojary had returned home after campaigning for Rai. The assailants thrashed all those who were in Poojary’s car and later entered the house and assaulted others.

Sanjeeva Poojary, his employees Iqbal, Shanker and Ammi have suffered injuries. The injured were immediately rushed to the hospital after Ramanatha Rai and other leaders  arrived at the scene soon after the incident.

Four separate complaints have been lodged.  Congress leaders suspect the hands of local BJP leader Srikanth Shetty and  his supporters.

On Thursday afternoon some BJP workers had created trouble alleging four liquor bottles were in a car  which was heading to Sanjeeva Poojary’s house. The video  in this  regard had also gone viral. Police are investigating if this incident had anything to do with Thursday night’s attack.

Security has been stepped up in the area following the incident.
