Even after the bank close the key bank personnel stay for an hour or two extra to oversee the collection of the currency, preparation of reports. After a week of intense heat, the bank managers, especially those is currency chest, are heaving a sigh of relief.

The first two days were hectic for them as they were coming to the bank an hour before the opening time and leaving in the wee hours of morning. A PSU bank official from the currency chest branch said: The first two days were frantic. Many key officials came at 8am and left at 1.30am. As days went by pressure reduced. The next two days, we left at 11.30pm and the last two days were better with us leaving at 10.30pm.

The non-currency chest bank personnel also had it tough. If the normal working day schedule was 10am to 7.30pm, the first two days the leaving time was close to midnight. A private bank official said: While tellers and other bank staff left an hour early, we left close to 10.30 pm in the last four days.

In Moodbidri, Rotary English Medium School managed by the Rotary Education Society, sent school children to help the banks manage the crowd and also help the public to fill up the forms.  Principal of the school said, "Our aim to send two teachers to banks as it is a crucial time. We could not do that, hence we trained children and sent them to the bank. The students will help public in filling up the money exchange/ deposit form, count the cash, manage the queue and provide drinking water at the banks and so on."

Twenty students, from Std IX and X, helped two banks in Moodabidri ease pressure on them. "In morning there was heavy rush and by 12.30pm, it normalised,’’ said the principal adding that students will be sent to the bank when needed. He said the move was appreciated by the banks.
