Bangalore - Mangalore - Karwar train from June 1

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, May 16: The extension of the tri-weekly day-time Bangalore - Mangalore train to Karwar has been approved and the train will run its extended services from June 1. However, the train will not enter the central station and commuters will have to catch it at the under-developed railway station at Padil.

Commuters are not very happy about these developments and feel that, if the train had been converted into a superfast, it could leave Karwar at 4:00 a.m. to reach Mangalore Central at 8:00 a.m. and Yeshwanthpura at 7:00 p.m. These timings would have permitted the train to enter Mangalore Central Railway Station without any problem. They also feel that the night train should have been extended to Karwar.

The Railway Board has released the following time table.
On Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, the train will depart from Karwar at 5:30 a.m., arrive into Mangalore junction at 10:55 a.m. where its engine will be changed, depart at 11:15 a.m., and will reach Yeshwanthpura at 10:45 p.m.
On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, the train will leave Yeshwanthpura at 7:30 a.m., arrive into Mangalore junction at 5:45 p.m., and will reach Karwar at 11:00 p.m.
R. L. Dais of the Udupi Rail Yathri Sangha said that Mamatha Banerjee, the present railway minister, is busy taking charge of West Bengal, and nobody knows when the files will be ultimately approved. Expressing his doubts that the extended service will commence on June 1, he urged commuters to be cautious about making plans based on these announcements. He also said that he had drafted and submitted a time-table for the extended service back in 2005, but the budget mentions a different schedule. He disclosed his intentions of pursuing the matter as early as possible.
