Ban orders clamped in DK district till Nov. 16 following stabbing incident

Mangaluru, Nov 14, 2016: DK DC Dr K G Jagadeesha has clamped ban orders under Section 144 in the entire Dakshina Kannada district till 6 pm on November 16. The order has been issued following the two stabbing incidents reported in Konaje and Ullal police station areas, as well as a request and report submitted by Superintendent of Police Bhushan Borase.

Mangaluru City Police Commissioner M Chandra Sekhar, who addressed media on Nov 13, Sunday, said the ban order has been clamped with effect from 2 pm on November 13. The orders were clamped in Ullal and Konaje police station areas on Nov 12, Saturday night itself, but were extended to the city police commissionerate areas at 2 pm on Sunday Nov 13.

Precaution :    City PC Chandra Sekhar said that the ban orders have been clamped as a precaution  to prevent any untoward incidents. “Although permission will not be given to conduct any public programmes or protests till November 16, it will not affect marriages, house-warming ceremonies and any such family programmes,” he assured.

Besides a ban on carrying weapons, police will also maintain vigil on those distributing pamphlets or uploading provocative messages on social media, which may lead to violence. PC  Chandra Sekhar also clarified that the police will check, if more than five people have gathered for any illegal activity. People, however, can wait in a queue in front of banks / ATMs to draw money, he added.

To a query on any interference by either District In-charge Minister B Ramanath Rai or Food and Civil Supplies Minister U T Khader, the commissioner said that there is no scope for any interference except the courts.

Stabbing Culprits  :  Stating that police have formed four separate teams to nab the culprits in the two stabbing incidents, the police commissioner said that the police have definite clues and expressed hope that the culprits will be nabbed soon. In addition to 500 police personnel, about 400 KSRP personnel have been deployed to maintain security in the region.

Number plate Check : Stating that the police have initiated a drive against vehicles without number plates or with number plates that don’t adhere to rules, Chandra Sekhar said that three motorbikes have already been seized in this regard.

He also requested the members of the public to inform the police or WhatsApp on 9480802312, photographs of any vehicles without vehicle number so that police could take action against them.   DCPs K M Shantharaju and Dr Sanjeev Patil were present at the press meet.
