It is learnt that this arrangement which became effective since Thursday evening, has been extended suo motu by the police department at state expense. No request was made by the activist for the same.

In an earlier incident on May 8th, Prof. Narendra Nayak had filed an FIR against one Shashank Shenoy at Urva Police Station for threatening him through a Facebook post. The accused had later surrendered in court and was granted bail. The present threat perception is not linked to this incident, it is learned.

It may be recalled that Prof. Narendra Nayak has been leading a relentless campaign ‘Justice for Vinayak Baliga’ for the last three months. The campaign is aimed at getting justice for RTI Activist Vinayak Baliga who was murdered in cold blood on 21st March this year at 5.45 a.m. He was hacked by unidentified assailants close to his house in a lane adjacent to Sterling Chambers near Kala Kunj.

As the involvement of powerful lobbies was suspected to be behind the murder, Prof. Narendra Nayak had ceaselessly kept the spotlight on the crime and its investigation through his activism. Over the last three months the police have arrested six suspects in the crime. A preliminary charge sheet has also been filed.

The investigation under the personal directions of city police commissioner M. Chandra Sekhar is going on at a steady pace and the crime has been disclosed to be contract killing.
