Mangaluru Apr 15, 2016: Deshapremi Sanghatanegala Okkuta staged a protest outside DC office on April 15, Friday seeking speedy justice in the case of murder of RTI activist Vinayak Baliga.
Addressing the protestors, Federation of Indian Rationalists Association President Prof Narendra Nayak said that people are nerveless to stand up against the murder of RTI activist Vinayak Baliga. Till today none of the ministers have chosen to visit Baliga’s residence and the whole political fraternity is tongue tied regarding the incident, Prof. Nayak said and added that Mangalurean people are deaf enough not to hear the cries of Baliga’s family.
"Vinayak Baliga was a BJP party worker who also worked for the victory of MP Nalin Kumar Kateel. MLA JR Lobo has shed only crocodile tears for Baliga," said Nayak.
"State Health Minister UT Khader need to be appreciated for his visit to Baliga’s residence and for showing his concern towards elderly parents of Baliga. But, senior Congress Leader B Janardhana Poojary who is known for helping the needy and holding press meet for every minor issue has ignored this incident, " Prof Nayak said..
"Several rumors about Baliga that he was a corrupt and was a blackmailer were being spread. If you pay a visit to Baliga’s residence you would know the condition and the hidden truth," he said.
"Till today Mangaluru Police failed to detain the main accused Naresh shenoy but he has applied for anticipatory bail which is nothing short of a miracle," he added.
Baliga had questioned a number of builders for violation of rules, keeping in mind the interests of the citizens, he had also questioned the management of the school near by his home because they blocked the road by parking and they had also violated the laws by building nearly twice the area that was sanctioned, said Narendra Nayak.
He further said that, Baliga wanted the streets to be sewage free as a large complex of nearly 360 flats near his home and not put up a sewage treatment plant as required. There was hearing regarding Sharada Vidyalaya building for which demolition orders had been issued but just before the hearing of the case, Baliga was brutally murdered, he added.
When a cow is slaughtered several organizations gather in large numbers but when a sincere citizen is brutally killed none of the organizations come forward and raise their voices, Nayak regretted.
DYFI District President Dayananda Shetty condemned the silence of the society regarding the incident. He also demanded that the Government provide Rs 25 lakh compensation to the bereaved family of Baliga.
Speaking to press persons later, Prof. Narendra Nayak said though there was a speculation that Police Commissioner was under political pressure, the Commissioner himself has denied any such thing. "This was the first instance in Mangaluru wherein an RTI activist has been brutally murdered. There is a speculation that an unknown RTI activist has filed PIL to change the investigation team," he said.
Vinayak Baliga’s father Ramachandra Baliga, mother Jayanthi Baliga, his friend Ganesh Baliga, RTI Activists Rohan Siri, Rajendra Kumar, Karunakar, PV Mohan, Vasudev Ucchil and others were present.
