BMS urges Govt to have ’welfare board’ for auto drivers

Mangaluru, Oct 23, 2019: Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangha (BMS), Karnataka has urged the chief minister to set up a welfare board for autorickshaw and private vehicle drivers on the lines of construction workers.

 

BMS Karnataka President Vishwanath Shetty said that BMS also had asked to set up a Cashew Workers’ Welfare Board to cover them under social welfare scheme. There is a need to amend the endowment act to bring Temple Employees under Gratuity Act 1972 to get reasonable gratuity as against meagre gratuity of Rs 35,000 under Endowment Act 1997.

A delegation had met Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa in the presence of the additional chief secretary and other senior officials, in Bengaluru. The issue of inordinate delay in processing applications for the benefits relating to construction workers, acute shortage of staff in labour department in clearing the applications were brought to the notice of the authorities concerned and Chief Minister. The issue of 80,000 applications pending in the department was also brought to the notice of the CM.

He said that outsourced and contractual employees in the department of health and medical education are deprived of personal life insurance, health insurance as provided to regular employees.

When the issue of Anganwadi workers was brought to the notice, the CM instructed secretary women and child welfare department to release central assistance of Rs 1,500 per month immediately. Along with state government promised to share Rs 500 for additional job introduced in the name of Mathrupurna yojana. Rs 50,000 lump- sum amount for the Anganwadi worker on attaining the age of superannuation which was held up was restored by CM’s order in the meeting, said Shetty.
