BJP re-nominates Kota Srinivas Poojary - Council polls

Udupi, Nov 27, 2015: T.V. Hegde, president of the Udupi district unit of the BJP, told media on Nov 26, Thursday that  BJP - Bharatiya Janata Party has re-nominated incumbent MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary as its candidate for the election to the Legislative Council from the Local Authorities constituency (Udupi and Dakshina Kannada).


Kota SrinivasMLC  Poojary had earned a name as a good legislator and raised several issues concerning gram panchayats in the Legislative Council.


  The party had chalked out an elaborate plan to ensure his victory in the election to be held on December 27, he said.


MLC Poojary was first elected following the death of the then incumbent MLC and Congress leader Blasius D’Souza in 2008. In 2010, he was elected unopposed along with Congress candidate Pratapchandra Shetty for the two Local Authority constituency seats, he said. Mr. Hegde said the BJP was strengthening its organisation from the grassroots level in the district. Of the 1,078 booth-level committees of the party, 820 had been reconstituted. The rest of them would be reconstituted by the month-end.

A three-day training programme for party workers would be held at Koteshwara. Nirmal Kumar Suran, party leader, would inaugurate the conference.  Pralhad Joshi, president of the BJP State unit, would participate in the valedictory programme on Sunday. B.S. Yeddyurappa, Nalin Kumar Kateel and Shobha Karandlaje, MPs, would also participate in the event.

MLC Poojary, released a booklet on the achievements of the Union government titled Sadhaneya Hejjegurutu , said that as an MLC for the last seven years, he had been successful in getting honorariums for gram panchayat members increased and also in getting the government increase funds for gram panchayats.
