BJP organizes bicycle rally against petrol price hike

Mangalore, May 31, 2012: The BJP organized a protest against petrol price hike in front of their district office on May 31, Thursday. They also arranged a bicycle rally to drive home their point.

The rally, which began at the BJP district office, passed through Bunts Hostel, Jyothi, Hampankatta, and K. S. Rao Road before ending at the BJP district office.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said that the bundh was successful. Stating that BJP workers have organized a bicycle rally to condemn petrol price hike, he said that the union government must either bring down petrol prices or resign. He said that they will continue using bicycles till the price hike is withdrawn.

The protestors taking part in the rally continuously shouted slogans against the UPA government. They also forced some shop owners who had pulled up their shutters to close their shops immediately. Reportedly, they also warned a supermarket that they will not be responsible for the consequences if it doesn’t close down immediately.

Shrikar Prabhu, president of the city unit of the BJP, and MLC Captain Ganesh Karnik also spoke on the occasion.
