According to a complaint filed by a local BJP activist at the Bekal police station, two CPI (M) workers were behind the attack. However, the police did not rule out the incident to be the handiwork of anti-social elements to foment tension between the two rival parties.

BJP activists led by senior party leader Madikkai Kammaran and district general secretary K. Sreekanth staged a march in Uduma in protest against the attack.

The incident comes barely days after incidents of stone-pelting at vehicles of CPI (M) activists who were returning home after attending a public meeting at the end of the three-day party district conference on Sunday.
