Speaking at a protest organised by the party in front of the MCC office here on November 27, Thursday  for the failure of the government to appoint a Commissioner for MCC, Umanath Kotian said “Sorake who had changed Deputy Commissioners in Udupi district as many as four times after he took charge as Minister, is now also responsible for the non-appointment of a Commissioner for MCC.”

He further stated that three groups within the Congress were resorting to politics to pursue their own  interests. If the MCC had a Mayor after a long gap of 20 months after the MCC elections, now ever since previous Commissioner Ajith Kumar was transferred, the city  has no Commissioner, Kotian said.

He said “if DK minister Ramanatha Rai and MLA JR Lobo wanted Ajith Kumar to continue, Sorake and Moidin Bava do not want him.” The development activities in the city has been greatly affected in the absence of a Commissioner, he said and warned of severe protest in the days to come if a Commissioner was not appointed at the earliest.
Monappa Bhandary, former MLC who also spoke, said though the CM has instructed to appoint a Commissioner, the Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake was showing least interest.

Several BJP leaders and workers including Yogish Bhat, former MLA participated in the protest.
