Awareness drive against plastic use commences at Central Market area

Mangaluru, Oct 05, 2019: A unique campaign aimed at   creating awareness among the public against use of plastic organised near the Central Market on October 5, Saturday was inaugurated by Mangaluru Smart City Managing Director Mohammad Nazeer.

 

On this occasion several people who were spotted shopping for vegetables and fruits with plastic bags in hand, were provided cloth bags. They were also handed over a rose along with a booklet providing information about the adverse consequences of plastic use on the environment.

Srinivas Nayak Indaje, President of DK District Working Journalists’ Union, Ganesh Nayak of Nelligudde Parisara Adhyayana Kendra, one of the organisers of the event, and others were present.

This campaign will be held for a period of one month when awareness programmes will be held in market places and malls.  Similar programmes will be held in schools from October 15. An essay contest on the ill-effects of plastic will also be conducted for school children.
