Autorickshaw drivers take to streets against assaults on colleagues

Mangaluru, Sep 1, 2015 : Autorickshaw drivers affiliated to various unions took to the streets on August 31, Monday to  condemn the recent case of murder of an autorickshaw driver and assault on two others. The drivers took out a protest march from Light House Hill to State Bank area where a huge demonstration was organised by the Autorickshaw unit of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike.

Speaking on the occasion, Ali Hassan, President of Minority Auto Rickshaw Drivers’ and Owners’ Association warned that autorickshaw drivers of the city would not operate from 7 pm every evening if the police fail to take action against the culprits. Stating that autorickshaw drivers were leading an insecure life he urged the police to take strict action against the culprits.

Several others who spoke on the occasion, condemned the recent incidents including the assault on driver Gurudutt at Attavar also urged the cops to install CCTV cameras at vantage points.

Hamza of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike Auto Rickshaw Division criticised the silence  of MLA JR Lobo and MLC Ivan D’Souza regarding the incidents.
