Mangaluru, Jan 19, 2015: Autorickshaw drivers and owners of the city, under the aegis of the Federation of Karnataka Autorickshaw Drivers’ Union affiliated to the CITU staged a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on January 19, Monday to pressurise the DC to revoke his order reducing the minimum autorickshaw fares.
The protestors who took strong exception to the DC’s orders described it as unilateral. They alleged that the autorickshaw drivers and owners were not taken into confidence before reducing the fares.
CITU leader Vasanth Achari who addressed the protestors said though oil prices in international market have reduced, the same is not the case with the prices of vehicle spare parts and insurance premium.
The reduction in fare would mean further burden on autorickshaw drivers, he said and urged the DC to revoke his order.
CITU leaders Krishnappa Gowda, Sunil Kumar Bajal and others were present.
