Automotive Learning Factory inaugurated at Nitte

Udupi, Apr 04, 2019: The Automotive Learning Factory under the Department of Mechanical Engineering was inaugurated at the NMAM Institute of Technology at Nitte in Udupi district recently. The main objective of this Learning Factory is to provide hands-on training and skill development to students such as project-based learning to meet the requirements of outcome-based education and current trends in Automotive Engineering.

At present, this factory houses an operational Ashok Leyland chassis (222 Viking BS4 – Selective Catalytic Reactor) and a variety of automotive components. Another attractive feature is a BMW Twin Power Turbo Engine with 8 Speed Steptronic transmission sponsored by BMW India under BMW SkillNxt programme for student training purpose.

Speaking after inaugurating the Learning Factory, N. Vinaya Hegde, Chancellor, Nitte (Deemed to be University), expressed the need for more collaboration between institute and industry. This would help students get better industry exposure and they would become industry-ready engineers by the time they graduated, he said.

Vishal Hegde, Pro-Chancellor, Nitte (Deemed to be University), M.S. Moodithaya, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Rajendra, Director, Finance and Planning, Harikrishna Bhat, former president, HCL Ltd., Japan, Niranjan N. Chiplunkar, principal, NMAMIT, and others were present.

Shashikantha Karinka, Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering, welcomed the gathering. Grynal D’Mello, Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the factory, presented the overview of the working of the factory. Krishnaprasad proposed a vote of thanks.

As part of Active Learning, a mini project exhibition was organised.
