Auto unions to support bandh on Sep 2nd

Mangaluru, Aug 31, 2016: It is reported that many organisations and trade unions have announced their support to the all India bandh called by the joint action committee of trade unions on Sept 2,Friday against the “anti-labour” policies of the Union government. 


It is reported that many organisations and trade unions have announced their support to the all India bandh called by the joint action committee of trade unions on Sept 2,Friday In a media note DK, Dakshina Kannada district president of the Federation of Karnataka Autorickshaw Drivers Union Sunil Kumar Bajal said that autorickshaw operators across the district would participate in the voluntary bandh between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m..

The proposed Road Safety Bill 2015, introduced in Parliament recently, is draconian, dealing a death blow to the working classes, he said.  Bajal said that the Bill, if enacted, would wipe out road transport corporations, private buses, mini buses, autorickshaws, vans, motor workshops, etc., thereby severely affecting the working classes.

The proposed Bill facilitates conglomeration of online taxi operators. Besides, drivers would solely be made responsible for accidents, he said.  Demanding the withdrawal of the Bill, all autorickshaw unions in the district would participate in the strike.

Mangaluru Autorickshaw Drivers Union president and MLC Ivan D’Souza and office-bearers of different associations have extended support to the strike, he said.

Bunder: The Bunder Workers Union too has extended support to the strike and said that its members would participate in the bandh. In a media note union office-bearer B.K. Imtiyaz said that the economic policy of the Union government has been anti-worker. While educational institutions are producing unemployed youth, the government is busy introducing pro-capitalist policies, he alleged. The joint committee of the Dakshina Kannada District Workers Unions organised a rally in Mangaluru on Aug 30, Tuesday to create awareness about the bandh. The committee said that there has been no response from the Union government to the numerous representations from trade unions against the anti-worker policies.
