Auto rickshaw drivers to demand more stands in Mangalore

Mangalore, May  23, 2012 : The Mangalore Mahanagara Auto Rickshaw Chalakara Sangha has called for an auto rickshaw strike between 10:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on May 25 demanding that the authorities concerned must set up more auto rickshaw stands in Mangalore.

Making the above announcement at a press conference held on Tuesday, Ivan D’Souza, president of the sangha, said that auto rickshaw drivers will undertake a padayatre from Urwa Stores to the DC’s office, where a protest meeting is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The padayatre will stop briefly at the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC), he added.

Stating that Mangalore has around 5,600 auto rickshaws, he said that the government has notified only 75 stands for these auto rickshaws although it has identified over 350 places.
